The British Musical Empire

It's fairly obvious to anyone with a slight interest in music that the British music scene is going through a golden age, we have some awesome bands, great songs, sensational artists and stunning singers (oh and Darius but you can't have everything).

Unlike golden era's of the past where we excelled in a single type of music, say for example punk with the Buzzcocks and Johnny Rottens own Sex Pistols in the 70s or back further with Rock n Roll and the Beatles/Rolling Stones in the 60s/70s.

Now we have everything from Jazz to Swing, Rock, Punk, Soul, Funk, Blues, Hip-Hop, Dance, Garage and Indie/Alternative.

From Joss Stone to Razorlight through Jamie Cullum and on to the Darkness the British music scene is really exploding and in 2005 is likely to take over the world.

Q Magazine labelled this as the Britpack but I think a better term would be BME or 'The British Musical Empire'.
