I am married with three children, between us we have 17″ PC laptop, a 15″ MacBook, two iPad 2′s, a pair of samsung netbooks and a few other bits of computer tech including a ps3.
Oh and we have a desktop PC.
Until very recently we had always had a big desk in the corner of the living room with my desktop computer and 21″ monitor on.
But, as we now have a wireless printer, a wireless hard drive and all the wireless computers – we decided top ditch the desktop.
It hasn’t completely gone, it is in the corner of our bedroom on a little desk out of the way, in a place nobody is ever likely to bother using it.
We now have a big coffee table between the sofa and the tv where my wife and I can sit and go online while watching television – or more likely have the television on in the background while we both watch iPlayer on the laptops.
Or in fact with iPlayer on through the ps3 on the led tv for the kids and we watch other shows on the iPlayer through our laptops, while nobody is actually watching anything as we are all chatting over te coffee table while the kids play the iPads or nintendo ds’s.
ok it is rarely THAT bad, most of the time the kids are in bed when we have the computers out and the tv on, but I will be sat there watching a DVD on the 17″ Sony Viao while my wife does eBay on the MacBook and watch some soap opera she recorded on sky+.
I will keep you posted on whether my life without a desktop is going to work, I am used to having the convenience of a machine that is sat there and on, but I do like the extra space not having a desk gives us.
Oh and since I last posted, if you write on a iPad you can hold down the full stop on the keyboard and it gives you a ” symbol.
