Give me iPlayer back on my Android phone

iplayerprobem

The first thing I did when I got my new HTC Tattoo earlier this year was open the browser and visit the BBC iPlayer site – it was great – I could watch iPlayer videos without a problem.

Then I discovered BeebPlayer which made the whole process easier and much more user friendly than trying to navigate a full browser site on a mobile phone.

But, with the recent changes to the iPlayer – apparently creating a better mobile experience – I can no longer access the iPlayer page on my phone and BeebPlayer doesn’t work.

In fact the new changes seem to require an Android phone with 2.2 which pretty much limits things.

Visiting iPlayer from any of the browsers on my phone I’m told my phone is not supported.

“Sorry, your phone does not support BBC iPlayer. More phones will be supported in the future.”

Which is VERY ANNOYING. Why can’t the BBC just make the same service they offer to iPhone customers available to all smartphones?

Really? beebPlayer works find on my HTC Magic (Android 1.6) – and has done since an update about a month ago. It works well enough to view football at work, at any rate.

Interesting – might have a check to see if there's an update – hopefully that will fix it and make it work again.
