Something to make me smile

Court of King Caractacus
I’m a fairly happy kind of chappy, I like nice happy things and I really enjoy smiling. In fact I almost enjoy smiling as much as I enjoy being a grumpy young git (I’m 27).

Anyone that reads my Twitter feed will know that this week I had to prepare the obituary of a good friend and brilliant broadcaster - taken away in his prime and long before his time.

John Uphoff was a great man, a funny man and a dedicated broadcaster. He loved the radio and knew about as much as anyone ever needed to know about the medium.

He had perfect comic timing, a great sense of self and the ability to cross that magical line every time but always come out of it innocent as apple pie.

That is the main reason I haven’t been able to write much to my blog recently, that and the inspiration hasn’t been there to be honest.

So while I gather my thoughts and think of things to write I’ve decided to share a few videos with you that make me smile - they’re all of the same thing.

I’ve recently been learning a number of silly songs on my guitar that I can play with the kids at the weekend and among these is The Court of King Caractacus by Rolf Harris - a song with actions (great for five and seven year olds).

This song would be a brilliant replacement to Rick Rolling - I haven’t found the original Rolf Harris version but there are some very funny ones performed by YouTubers.

Anyway here is the first and the only one I’ve found actually showing Rolf in vision (with Basil Brush).

And these are all showing other people doing the dance:

There are MANY MANY more of these and a few animations as well:

And finally - one for John who is probably sitting their in the great studio in the sky browsing the best computer in the world with an always on instant super speed broadband connection that never shuts down.
