A new kind of band tee

I’m a t-shirt fan - I’ve got dozens of them with all different kinds of slogans, pictures, logos and assorted imagery - from bands and gigs to  technology and geekery.

However, recently I’ve put on a bit of weight and have taken to wearing shirts instead - I’ve got about 10 shirts I wear during the week at work and a couple of collared t-shirts I wear at the weekend.

They make me feel old. The primary proponent of my move from nice, comfortable and opinionated t-shirts was my wife - she felt at 26 (nearly 27) I should be wearing something with a collar.

I resisted that move for years until she finally just went out and brought me a load of shirts and out of wanting to keep the peace I wore them and have been for about three months.

But I still love my t-shirts - more as a collection than to wear - although they still get an outing now and then. I got so fed up with being asked for tech help I put my ‘No I won’t fix your computer’ tee on the other day.

But back to the image/collection side. Because a t-shirt can tell a story, can inspire ideas, can be a piece of art in its own right - I still love to scour the web for interesting ones.

My next purchase will be an I AM THE STIG t-shirt - but I’m in no hurry as I really want a James May one.

Anyway - lets get on to the point of this post - a new kind of band t-shirt. My digital friend, Phil Regan, (he isn’t digital himself but as I’ve only spoken to him online I count him as a digital friend) has entered a competition to get his t-shirt design added to the Threadless product list.

It’s an impressive concept:

Basically he’s playing on the traditional band t-shirt idea but adding a flexible element - based on the ever changing tastes and charts that dominate the digital generation.

A suggestion on the thread for the t-shirts page on Threadless is that it should come with a Sharpie pen when you buy it so you can write your favourite band.

It’s a great idea - which is why when Phil asked me to encourage people to vote for it I duly jumped at the chance - so head over to the page on Threadless and give it a five.
