I can’t read anymore

When I first started downloading Audiobooks I thought “this will be a nice alternative to books every now and then” with the idea that it would be ‘in addition’ to books.

It hasn’t worked out that way!

Instead of using Audiobooks as a way of reading during those moments it isn’t possible to read a book (walking to work, walking home etc…) and when I haven’t got any podcasts lined up - or fancy something more substantial - I’ve stopped reading completely.

Now I listen to podcasts while walking to and from work and listen to audiobooks in the evening on the sofa or when going to bed and can’t sleep - times I would normally pick up a book.

I used to get through about two books a week and so usually had one or two on the shelf I hadn’t read at any time - now I’ve got about 40 books sitting there waiting to be read.

I used to devour a Doctor Who book in a day - now I wait six months for the audiobook to be made available through Audible and listen to that instead.

It’s getting silly. It recently took me nearly two months to read a Doctor Who book - I only managed to get through about two pages before I got bored, put the book back in my bag and listened to an audiobook instead.

I love listening to Audiobooks, I love the simplicity of it, the fact that my eyes don’t get tired after a couple of hours and the fact that somebody much better at reading than me is reading it.

So how do I get out of this hole? The problem I’ve got is that half the books I want to read aren’t available as audiobooks yet and my library of books I haven’t yet read is increasing at an alarming rate.
