They like me, they really like me

It’s not often I get an e-mail that gives me a real buzz, it’s also not often people tell me they really like what I do - unless they’re spamming me and trying to get me to link to them - but they don’t count.
No I’m talking about the real kind of positive boost - not the ‘I very much like your blog and oh if you want a bigger penis use this weird drug’ type of positive boost.
I’m talking about the type of boost that comes from an e-mail suggesting my blog is worth a rating of eight out of ten - that’s a good boost.
OK so this is as much a form of spam as any other BUT the difference is that this came through my contact form where I’m asking for contributions and does actually target my blog directly and sounds like it was written by a real person.
Amy Liu of the Blogged.com Marketing Department sent me a very nice e-mail telling me how the editors of Blogged.com had reviewed Up Your Ego and had given me 8 out of 10 in the Entertainment category.
I’m not sure if this IS good or not - how big is Blogged.com in the grand scheme of social media? Actually I don’t care - the e-mail makes it sound like a real person has looked at my blog and rated it pretty high which is enough for me.
In much the same way that Ant and Dec must have felt when their own viewers voted them the best comedy show at the comedy awards … oh wait that went to Catherine Tate really didn’t it? Oh you know what I mean.
Anyway - the e-mail said “our editors recently reviewed your blog and have given it an 8.0 score out of (10) in the Entertainment category of Blogged.com. This is quite an achievement!”
This is lovely and makes me very happy. Apparently they evaluate blogs on “Frequency of Updates, Relevance of Content, Site Design, and Writing Style.”
There are buttons I can display on my blog to show how wonderful they think I am - so I’m going to post one here - I don’t like shouting about my own achievements too much - that’s for people that actually like me to do - I just like to write content.
Speaking of which - my busy time at work is calming a LOT now so expect to see a lot more posts.
I’m not sure how useful in terms of site promotion these services are though. It’s certainly a real ego boost BUT the only people that really look there for blogs are bloggers looking for their own blog - I didn’t click on anyone elses - but then maybe I’m just a bad netizen?
God I haven’t used that term in a long time and it sounds so weird.
