Up Your Video

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - I’m addicted to any social network, I’m also addicted to domain names and to registering for sites and services.

Recently I even found myself registering for the Jersey Customs Goods and Services Tax Payment System even though I have no need to - it was a form so I filled it in.

But sometimes forms can be useful and lead to better things. I’ve signed up for two new services tonight - MuxTape (which I’ve already blogged about) and StartYourTube.com - a video sharing site with a difference.

What StartYourTube.com lets you do that YouTube doesn’t is take complete control - you put your banner in place, you set the colours and you even give it a URL - they pay for the bandwidth of videos uploaded by your users and you make a share of the advertising revenue.

I’m not sure I’ll do anything more with it - after all I rarely do anything more with anything I ever sign up for but it was fun giving it a go.

You get a lot of control over the colour scheme and the way the page looks - at the most basic level you can put a custom logo in, set the colours and define the categories - that’s exactly what I’ve done.

I’ve got a number of domain names doing nothing - one of which is cultofme.net which I think lends itself nicely to a socail video service.

So I’ve set that up as the domain name, customised it a little bit (I’m too lazy to do anymore), designed a logo and given it a rough brand.

Now I’m going to sit back and wait to see if anyone bothers to register and upload a video or two. I personally doubt they will - despite setting it up with the niche that it’s all about you selling yourself as You Tube and every other video sharing site already manages this brilliantly.
