Heroes in a half shell
April 24, 2008
My four year old son has just started getting into slightly more grown up kids TV - until very recently his choice of programming included Bob the Builder, Tweenies, Tractor Tom and In the Night Garden.
Now he’s getting into Spongebob Square Pants, Power Rangers AND a show I’m really pleased he likes - Teenage Mutant ‘Ninja’ Turtles.
When I was younger two of my favourite, won’t miss for the world, television shows were Thundercats and Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.
So I got really excited at the prospect of sitting down and watching an old favourite show from my childhood on TV with my son - but it was rubbish.
It’s some freaky new version that’s gone all over shadowy on us and I’m NOT impressed. Part of the charm of the ‘Heroes’ series of my childhood was its veiled innocence - yes it was violent but it was comic voilence - this series ISN’T.
I think I’m going to have to get some original Turtles DVDs and Thundercats DVDs before my son thinks all kids TV has to be violent.
Oh and for nostalgia junkies:
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
Heroes in a half-shell - Turtle Power
They’re the world’s most fearsome fighting teens, (we’re really hip)
They’re heroes in a half-shell, and they’re green, (hey! get a grip!)
When the evil Shredder attacks,
These turtles boys don’t cut him no slack.
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles,
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.
Splinter taught them to be fighting teens, (he’s a radical rat)
Leonardo leads, Donatello does machine’s, (that’s a fact chap).
Raphael is cool but crude, (gimme’ a break!)
Michaelangelo is a party dude (Hurray!!).
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles,
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.
Heroes in a half shell,
Turtle power!
