Hitting The Wall

No I’m not talking about the London Marathon but a new comedy series on BBC THREE featuring some of the hottest comedic talent in the UK right now.
Every Tuesday at 11pm there is something really odd happening to British Television - there’s a programme on that is not only original, unique and inventive but also bloody funny.
The Wall is presented by Rhys Thomas and Alexa Chung and it a sort of marriage of classic sketch comedy and the traditional, British youth chat show format.
It’s part Later with Jools Holland, part Smack the Pony, part TFI Friday, part Not the 9 O Clock News, part The Ali G Show and a huge part funny.
It features the amazingly surreal We Are Klang as well as characters like Tony Izzit (who passes judgment on life from behind the wheel of his car) - the creation of writer and comedian Jamie Glassman.
Then you’ve got Dr Omprakash, a deluded and slightly less than good GP, High Street musical that sees ordinary members of the public inflicted with the singing of the HSM team.
Oh and don’t forget Keith Chegwin asking questions to unsespecting members of the public with his slightly dense sidekick in Street Quiz Challenge.
Oh and Barabus’ and his sweary flashy horoscopes (Leo is hillarious) and of course the Lazy Pap who keeps missing his opportunity at a celebrity shot and gets members of the public to help him mock one up.
Last week saw him get a white bloke to put on a racing helmet and hold a copy of autotrader in various poses. He then finished by saying something like “we’ll black you up in photoshop”.
Each week there is a guest who is interviewed by the two presenters with other members of the extended cast stepping in to help as needed.
The show features some of the BEST new British comedy talent and is the closest thing I’ve seen to the likes of Phython, Goodies and Frost Report in a very long time - in that it’s a completely original take on sketch comedy.
There’s also The Wall itself - which talks, introduces and plays clips sent in by the great British public.
Catch The Wall if you can - it’s easily the best thing on BBC Three at the moment - at least it is until they finally get around to making a full series of Being Human.
Videos
Here are a few more videos thanks to the BBC You Tube channel and the fact that they finally allow embedding of views onto other sites.
If only they would let us embedd the videos from their OWN site life would be so much easier and richer than it currently is.
There are ways around embedding iPlayer and BBC News but as the BBC Three site uses a piece of JavaScript to embedd the videos - it’s too much of a pain to work it out.
