Demonoid is back!
The older I get the more likely I am to just buy a music file, audio book, TV programme or DVD – I’m even more likely to just wait for the UK release of a show.
But there was a time when my patience didn’t stretch that much – when I had to see every episode of a show from the US within a day of it airing over there (I’d still watch the UK version) and a time when I wouldn’t think twice about downloading music.
Now of course that’s changed. I buy music and TV from iTunes, I watch shows on 4Od, iPlayer and ITV.com and I buy audiobooks from Audible. Oh and there’s always Blockbuster for movies (who actually needs to own a movie).
But there are still some things the grey web is useful for. The main one is radio and more specifically old, slightly obscure radio shows that aren’t available from Audible.
One example of this is the brilliant prequal to Absolute Power (Stephen Fry and John Bird), In The Red and it’s other In The follow ups.
I heard one episode on BBC 7 once and never got to hear the rest. I searched Aubible, I e-mailed Audible, I searched the web and contacted the BBC – in the end I accepted all legal avenues had been explored and started on the less than legal ones.
I started by searching the big Torrent sites like The Pirate Bay, ISO Hunt and Mininova to NO effect – in the end I turned to Demonoid (managing to sign up on the rare occasion they let people in) where I not only found In The Red but the follow ups to it, In the Balance, In the Chair, and In the End.
Then I managed to find every Absolute Power bar one. There were four series of the radio version plus a one off special – I’ve got everything but the special.
I did manage to find the special but just as I was about to start downloading it – Demoid shut down and it was never available anywhere else.
Well now Demonoid is back and I, along with many others I’m sure, recieved an e-mail from them basically saying “We are pleased to inform you that Demonoid.com is finally back online.”
Unfortunately I’ve used every search term I can think of and Absolute Power radio special just doesn’t seem to be there. Oh well I guess it’s time to give up.
