Shut up about the BBC

I’m a vain kind of guy - not vain as in spending hours in front of the mirror - if you’ve seen my hair you’ll know I don’t do that - no vain as in wanting to know what people are saying about me.

Once a month or so I’ll do a mass search on every search engine, I’ll go through Who Links to Me, I’ll search Technorati and hunt through my own analytics to see where my blog is mentioned.

Either because I’m writing a lot more or because what I’m writing has, somehow become interesting - I’m finding more and more links to me all the times and not just from blogs.

The most recent, and possibly most surprising link came from Google - yes I know there are thousands of links to me from Google but this one was from the Google finance pages.

It’s also the reason for the headline - I hadn’t realised just how much I write about the BBC until I spotted this. Before I explain here is a quick screengrab for you.





As you can see - it’s a blog posts box on a Google finance page and all three links point to posts right here at Up Your Ego and you can probably guess from the links what company it was for.

Yup I feature, or at least I featured on Tuesday 18 March 2008 at 12:04, as the sole blogger talking about BBC Worldwide according to Google Finance.

This is why I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m blogging about the BBC far too much.

Although if you REALLY look at the posts listed above - you’ll see that only one of them is directly about the BBC - they all mention Aunty but only the Other BBC Homepage is specifically about it.

And that post isn’t even about BBC Worldwide - it’s about the new look BBC Homepage and specifically the UK version of the new look BBC Homepage to boot.

Yes I have blogged about the BBC a lot and have even blogged about BBC Worldwide but this isn’t a true reflection - this is pulling it’s summary from god knows where - probably the top three links or related posts on each entry.

Maybe to get around the problem I need to include a slug on blog posts - would that help?

Anyway - I’ll try and find things that aren’t the BBC to write about over the next few days. I’m just looking at my drafts library and I’ve got one on the new BBC /Programmes site (um…), another on BBC Worldwide and ITV Worldwide (er…), one on embedding the BBC on my blog (ugh…) oh and one on managing my virtual life (ahhh…).

Oh and I’ve just had a thought - this post will probably now join the other three on the same page I’m writing about!
