It’s been an eventful day for the BBC Homepage team today - first there were technical issues that caused them to publish a simplified version of the page and then there was a big news story.

So the picture of today is a screen grab of that very homepage from this morning - it’s posted above and has gone from being the glossy any colour of the flashy one to a flat red and grey similar to BBC News Online.





It focuses on news with a few static links to alternative pages. It has a similar theme to the full site but is heavily cut down and limited - I’m guessing to cut down on bandwidth.

Then later on in the day when the man was arrested for running on the runway at Heathrow Airport the site changed to be more like the international version - it had a much smaller main promo space that linked to a news story.

Actually the smaller box worked much better and gave the page a more attractive balance - but that’s just my opinion. I didn’t get a screengrab of that one though.
