A day in London
February 27, 2008
On occasion I find myself in London for work and I never enjoy the experience - don’t get me wrong I love London, it’s a wonderful vibrant, historic city with so much to do all of the time - but in a work context it’s horrible.
The rush and squash of the tube, the clamber up the escalator and the fight for space on the pavement - the grab for tickets and money and the pollution.
Every time I visit London for work I come away with a horribly dirty face, with a need to scrub my hair and a general feeling of grottyness that I don’t get anywhere else.
Also, when I go to London for work it usually involves flying out on the Red Eye - which means getting up at 4am to get to work for 5am to get a cab for 5.30am to get to the airport for 6am to catch a flight at 7am to get to Gatwick for 8am to get in the rush of the Gatwick Express and tube for 9am.
Then I do the whole thing again in reverse from 5pm - eventually getting back home for about 10pm.
