What you want from me
February 22, 2008
I’ve recently installed the Wordpress.com Blog Stats plugin and it’s very good - it gives me pretty detailed stats from within my Wordpress Dashboard and much more reliable stats for the blog than I get from the stats system my host provides.
So I thought I’d share some of the reports from the first week with you.
A good indication of what you’re providing is gaining interest, or at least of what people search for and find on your site - is the search engine terms.
These are the terms people typed into a search engine over the last week that led to my blog.
i can’t i’m mormon, bugroff, 4od download location, please don’t print this e-mail, bbcradio4, the stig, spooks itunes, top gear dvds, eurovision torrents, embed bbc stram your site, bbc three website and bbc podcasts.
When I launched Up Your Ego my goal was to write about Geek Culture, as this included things like websites, mashups, environmental stuff, television, music, t-shirts and things like that - I’d say from those terms I’m getting it right.
You can also see referrers and although there are a few from the expected places (BBC Radio Labs Blog, other bloggers, FinalGear Forum and Google Reader) there are a few from places I’m not sure about.
These included spam blogs a few new social networks and search sites I’ve never heard of (Wikio?).
For some reason other blogs don’t seem to link out to other blogs as they used to - then again I haven’t included a link to other blogs talking about the same subject as me for a while either.
I tend to rely on services like Sphere and Technorati to spread the link love instead of doing it myself. Unfortunately these don’t help the rankings of blogs I like - so maybe I should link out more?
