Changing my avatar
February 17, 2008 by upyourego
Right now I have a Simpsonized picture of myself as my My Blog Log avatar - this basically appears on the homepage of any blog that uses MyBlogLog and that I visit.
I use mine, or at least the avatars of those visiting my blog, as a way of keeping track of blogs I like to read - if somebody reads my blog and I can see they read it - I’m happy to go and read theirs.
Well now that MyBlogLog (Yahoo!) has made the Avatars higher profile and created attractive new widgets for bloggers to use (see bottom of upyourego.com homepage) my image will be more prominent.
Another way I use them is to visit a blog I like and click through to other people that have visited that blog - working on an assumption that if they like the sites I like - I may enjoy what they have to say on their own blog.
I like to think that at least a few people would use it in the same, or at least similar, way to me - in which case - how often should I change my avatar.
I’m getting bored of the Simpsons image - I want to use something that defines the new image of my blog better - or maybe even a picture of myself.
But I’ve already changed once - I used to have a picture of a butterfly - which represented my blog design at the time - I then changed it to the Simpson’s thing as I thought more people would notice it and it had more geek cred.
Now I think its time to change it and make it (although still geeky) slightly less cartoony.
But if I change the graphic - will people still know its me? Does anyone really care? Would having a new image actually encourage more people to click on it?
The other reason I want to change is that almost everybody has gone ‘Simpsons’ now.
