Size does matter

Battle of Flowers

The Jersey Battle of Flowers is a wonderful event, it’s a real spectacle and a fantastic thing to photograph but I’m not sure its BIG ENOUGH or capable of being big enough to be sustainable, or at least to sustain interest in the High Def 21st Century.

I was watching footage of the Rio Carnival on TV the other day and it looks HUGE - the floats are massive and there are literally THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE around each float - there isn’t a patch of route that doesn’t include people.

Compare this to the Battle of Flowers - an even that, to someone who has never seen the Rio Carnival will look enormous and equally impressive - suddenly seems tiny and quaint.

It isn’t though. The floats at the Battle of Flowers are impressive creations - masses of detail and the big ones are pretty huge themselves.

The dancers either side of a float are equally impressive and the mid float entertainment is pretty special as well - but is it enough?

Still - as I now have a place to shove my photos without impacting on my main blog homepage - I can put up some archive photos for you to enjoy.
