Annual Top Gear
January 2, 2008 by upyourego
Since it started in the year 2002 there have been two series of Top Gear each year - one in the first or early second quarter (around April/May) and another at the end of the year around October/November.
The exception to this was the slightly odd Series 9 (first post crash series) that started in January - but things seemed back to normal when the series came back in October last year.
Now I’m starting to wonder whether the normal two series a year will actually continue or whether they’ve decided to go the same way as other high profile shows and have one series a year.
This was posted on the BBC Top Gear website:
We’ll be back. Series ten may be over, but don’t worry - Top Gear returns to your screens in the summer with even more high-octane entertainment.
Of course this could just mean that the Top Gear Team (or at least the person responsible for writing bbc.co.uk/topgear think Summer starts in May and with the recent weather changes - that is when it starts to get warm.
It could also mean that Top Gear 11 will start in June and we will still get an October/November series - I mean June is summer.
Or it could mean Top Gear is going annual. The three Top Gear lads aren’t getting any younger and Top Gear must have done a number of the big ideas they can afford to do on a twice yearly budget.
The three are also working on other projects and must have more things they want to do and ideas they want to work on.
This is why I was thinking that maybe Top Gear have decided to follow the same route as other British shows and only have one series a year.
It could be that “we’ll be back in the summer” is actually referring to another big special like the Polar Race one and that proper Top Gear wont actually be back until September/October (in time for the Autumn season).
Although I could be completely wrong and am probably just over analysing a simple, off the cuff comment posted on the bottom of the BBC webpage.
