I was wrong-ish!

Well - yesterday I suggested the iPod Touch wouldn’t be far off the dollar price - in pounds. Fortunately I was wrong - although it isn’t a direct conversion.
The current exchange rate is £1 = $2.02 which would make the iPod Touch £148 - but according to Apple the Touch will actually start at £199 which isn’t THAT bad but is still £50 more than the US price.
The iPod Touch (8gb) in the US would set you back $299 but in the UK the same model is going to cost £199 - this is a LOT better than the conversion Apple have used for other products but not as good as it should be.
Of course when I get one the 8gb (which is more than enough for me as I like to manage my music) will only cost £170 as I don’t have to pay the 17.5% VAT (I live in Jersey) which is about the price Apple SHOULD be selling it at in the UK in the first place - with VAT.
That would mean the NO VAT price in the UK would be more or less the same as the dollar price in the US - working on taking 15% off for VAT - which is what you’re supposed to do apparently.
Will I get an iPod Touch? Yes but probably not until Christmas as it will take that long to convince my wife she REALLY wants my old iPod Nano.
