Smith and Jones

April 1, 2007 by upyourego

I was toying with whether I should write a review of Smith and Jones, the first episode of the new series of Doctor Who or not, but decided in the end that everyone else would be so I didn’t need to.

However I thought it might be fun to share my family experience of watching the episode - after all Doctor Who is a show made for the whole family - from toddler to old git.

Well I sat on the sofa with my six year old daughter (we’re the only ones that like Who) to watch the first episode of the new series.

A couple of minutes later my wife sat down and said ‘nothing better to do so I’ll watch it with you’, then just before it started my youngest (three) got out of bed and sat on my lap - we let him stay.

Basically for 45 minutes my wife (anti anything SciFi) and my two children sat there opened mouth without a word - they loved it and are looking forward to next week.

It was a true family event in my house with the four of us enjoying a television programme together for a change - they’ve hit the ‘family entertainment’ spot on.

Although I did get a bit annoyed when my wife said “I love the soap bits but why do they have to spoil it with monsters and the moon”

Both the kids have been talking about it and acting out scenes all day - although the three year old didn’t want a straw with his drink at lunchtime
