Christmas Mine
December 12, 2006
It’s nearly Christmas and whether you like them or not carol singers will be singing at your door, the Salvation Army performing on the street and crappy pop tunes about Christmas in the shops.
That’s where this post comes in. Every year on BBC Radio Jersey they run a campaign to find the islands favourite carol and every year it turns out to be Silent Night - this year they asked us to put a form on bbc.co.uk/jersey for people to send in their nominations to get opinions from another audience.
BBC local radio traditionally targets 45 - 55 year olds and traditionally gets 65+ year olds. The BBC Where I Live sites where set up to provide local content for a younger audience so target (and usually reach) an 18 - 35 audience.
Unfortunately, when putting the form on the website I don’t think it was realised the sort of response they’d get from that younger audience when asked what Christmas carols they’d like to hear the Salvation Army and Catholic School Girls perform.
So far though there hasn’t been a single carol submitted. The second most popular song is Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, the third is Santa Baby and by a LONG way the most popular is Christmas My Arse by Ricky Tomlinson.
The Salvation Army and choir will perform twelve songs and at the moment the twelve would include Christmas My Arse, Santa Baby, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Hug a Muslim, Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney and Don’t let the Bells End.
Which should be great fun. I’m going down with a camera and if they actually DO sing those songs I’ll post the video to You Tube. It’s unlikely they will as people can also vote by filling out a form in the various Channel Islands Co-Op stores (the second biggest supermarket group in Jersey).
Thanks go to Dreamdust for the Salvation Army photo used in this article and appologies for not including a text link when first published.

Thanks for the link
I can’t imagine the Salvation Army performing that eclectic mix, but it would certainly make a great video if they did! Seasons Greetings!
Got something to say?
