iPod favourite bits

My most and least favourite iPod feature are exactly the same thing. It’s something that I love in so many ways and something else that I hate to the point of exasperation.

Perry Foster BluesmanI discovered this feature by accident, but then accidents is the whole point of the feature existing in the first place so I guess I would discover it by accident wouldn’t I.

You might have already guessed it but just incase you haven’t it’s the fact that the iPod pauses what you’re playing when the headphones get pulled out of the socket.

It’s brilliant when I’m doing something like the washing up while listening to a podcast and I reach up into a cupboard and accidentaly pull the plug - it means I don’t miss anything.

But if I’m listening to music and I accidentally pull the cable while doing just about anything it means I’ve got to go to the hassle of plugging it back in, opening the case and pressing play - instead of just plugging in the cable again.

I wouldn’t change it though - it’s better to have it pause than not. I can live with having to press play when listening to music but would get really annoyed if I had to scroll back when listening to a podcast.

On another note - the iPod Shuffle has started hitting shops and I’m really tempted to get one just for podcasts. I can keep my nano for music (actually fill the whole thing up with music instead of 70/30 music/podcasts.

One thing I’ve missed since iTunes 7 though is the ability to create a playlist of all my podcasts and just listen to them one after the other - it doesn’t seem to work anymore.

Now I have to open up my iPod case and scroll through to the next podcast - a pain in the backside, I’d much rather be able to put them in a playlist and listen one after the other.

Is it possible to write ad-on features or change elements of the way the iPod works yourself? Or is there a way of convincing the iPod that my podcasts are songs and to treat them the same way when in a playlist.
