Music Memory
September 8, 2006
A memory card company in Jersey (Channel Islands) has teamed up with the Jersey Live music festival to promote unsigned bands and give them a chance to play the festival.
Unsigned bands from around the UK get to upload their tracks to the companies website and users will then vote for their favourite (the winner will play Jersey Live).
As well as playing the festival, the winner will also have their album loaded on to all memory cards sold by the company in 2007 - which includes everything from mp3 players to compact flash cards.
This is posted on the My Memory Unsigned! page: “The winner will have their album released on all MyMemory memory cards. With mobile media exploding by the day, tens of thousands of people will listen to your talents!”
I think this is a double sided move for My Memory - on one hand it will draw more people to their site and with Scan Disk II Compact Flash Cards for £79 for 4gb - they will get people buying - on the other hand pre-loading 50mb or so of content on a memory card IS going to annoy a lot of people.
The Jersey Live festival, which I’ve blogged about a few times now has played host to bands like The Subways, The Editors, The Bravery, Snow Patrol, The Thrills, The Zutons and more over the past few years.
In the three years the festival has been around unsigned bands have opened the festival, in the first two years Jersey bands filled the first six slots - this year they filled the first four.
Blast on the BBC
While I’m talking about uploading music - if you’re in a band and are aged between 13 and 19 the BBC are giving you the chance to upload a track or two to their Blast Music section.
It will be heard by people in your age group and music experts.
If you’re under 13 or over 19 don’t even bother looking - you won’t get in to even see what the tracks are like let alone upload or download anything.
