Daily Posting - important?

Until recently I’ve done everything I can to make sure I post ’something’ every day on my blog but it’s pretty tough, especially as I have to write a few thousand words a day as part of my job.
Coming up with new ideas for articles is pretty easy. The problem comes when I have to turn those ideas into a reasonable legnth blog post.
What I’ve started doing recently though is when I’m having a ‘creative’ day, I’ll write three or four posts, put them up and hope they tide me over until the next time I’m In the mood to write.
My feeling is that, in terms of actual visitors to the site, reading stories on my homepage - this approach is fine. However, if people look at posts through an RSS feed and don’t see an update for a couple of days - does it make a big difference?
Most of the comments I get on my blog are for posts I published weeks ago. I’m guessing these are from people that find the specific entry through a web search.
So on one hand I have people reading the RSS feed who won’t be sparked into interested unless a new post comes through - so that argues for a daily posting - even if it isn’t a proper, well researched post.
But on the other hand, I get most of my comments on older posts from people finding the site through a search engine - so that argues the other side - come up with fewer, less regular but better researched posts.
Should I write ’something’, even if it’s just a paragraph or two on what’s in my mind everyday - or should I hold off and write a decent post, well researched, with links every few days?
