Segway Racing

Sorry about the gap between this and my last post but it was Battle of Flowers week in Jersey last week so have been a little busy covering the islands main tourism event.
I didn’t expect to write anything about the Battle of Flowers on my Blog as it doesn’t really fit into the general area of talking points I like to think about, but there was one element of the Battle that does fit right in to the whole geek culture thing.
The Battle of Flowers is a parade of floats (made from real and paper flowers), dancers, street entertainment, bands etc that goes up and down the two mile or so straight along St Aubins Bay.
As well as all the main entertainment you also have teenagers running up and down selling everything from flower garlands and programmes to glow sticks and newspapers.
They also, in previous years, have had a group of teenagers on rollorskates throwing sweets to people in the crowd - not very ‘tech’ but this year they replaced the skates with - Segways!
It was incredible watching them zip up and down the free standing personal transporters - really made me want to buy one - and at about £4000 (same price as a good Moped) I was VERY tempted.
However, I don’t need to spend that money with out trying it first - oh no - I found out that in St Ouen they have a track where you can race Segways - I’m going to go and do it, take some photos and then write about it afterwards - the things I do for you!
