Riot Police deployed in Jersey

Originally uploaded by Up Your Ego.

Portugal beat England 3-1 on penalties and as predicted a handful of England fans kicked off in Jersey throwing bottles, kicking cars and generally being abusive.

The Portugal fans filled Minden Place in St. Helier, Jersey in celebration of their teams victory and progress to the World Cup semi-finals.

The atmosphere was electric, fully of energy and jubilation - there were horns, instruments, flags and a LOT of cheering.

Most of the England fans were actually in equally high sprits and getting on with the whole party atmosphere (they were kept away from the Portugal fans by a large barrier on all sides).

There were however a few hell bent on getting to the fans and causing trouble - the police held them back with dogs and riot gear.
You can see a few more riot police, England fans and Portugal fan photos by going to my World Cup Flickr stream.
