Emergency Radio 1

May 18, 2006 by upyourego

BBC Radio 1’s Colin & Edith had to put a call out today for a Jersey sailor to turn off the radio.

Acording to the Jersey coastguard a man on his boat in a boatyard accidently played out BBC Radio 1 over the Emergency Channel 16 potentially making it difficult for people in danger to be heard by the coastguard.

It all started around 3pm when BBC Radio Jersey was called by the coastguard and asked to put out an appeal, the newsroom called BBC Radio 1 and asked if they could do the same.

As part of the appeal Colin Murray said “you are causing maritime chaos. So boat people of the world, stop it” and at the end of the appeal said “we’re a good show, but people don’t need to die.”

So a new tagline for the Colin & Edith show on Radio 1 could be “not as good as death, but pretty close” or “Colin & Edith, better than the emergency channel”.

We’ve all had embarrassing moments, I just wish they’d send around a photo of this guy so we can embarasse him a little bit more.

Colin & Edith put out emergency appeal (realmedia).

One of my most embarrassing moments (that my brain will actually let my access) involve my drum kit, the first was when I was about fifteen and at school - I was playing a drum solo as part of a choir performance of Like A Prayer (no thats not the embarrassing bit) where I sent a stick flying in the air, it eventually hit an 11 year old on the head

What about you?
